What’s Glocon all about?
The WWW (1991) heralded an era of the ‘static web’ now know as Web 1.0.
Web 2.0 ( 2004 ) and facebook heralded in a new era of the ‘social web’.
“The Web we know now, which loads into a browser window in essentially static screenfuls, is only an embryo of the Web to come. The first glimmerings of Web 2.0 are beginning to appear, and we are just starting to see how that embryo might develop. The Web will be understood not as screenfuls of text and graphics but as a transport mechanism, the ether through which interactivity happens. It will appear on your computer screen, on your TV set, our car dashboard, your cell phone, hand-held game machines, maybe even your microwave oven.” [Darcy DiNucci 1999)
From the era of Web 2.0 came Big data Mapreduce (2004) and Hadoop (2005) and the cloud Amazon EC2 (2006).
Mobile Internet – Smart Phones and Tablets Iphone (2007) Ipad (2010). Allowed the Web 2.0 to be with us all the time and the creation a whole industry of mobile apps.
The internet of things is connecting house hold items to the internet which then can controlled via web and mobile applications.
Wearable tech is now launching such as Fitbit (2009), Jawbone Up (2011), Nike Fuelband (2012) , Google Glass 2013 integrate with mobile apps extending the functionality and usability of mobiles.
Now with the nexus of Social, Big Data and Cloud, Mobile (including wearable gadgets and the internet of things we are now seeing the formation of a semantic + personalized web – Web 3.0
“I have a dream for the Web [in which computers] become capable of analyzing all the data on the Web – the content, links, and transactions between people and computers. A “Semantic Web”, which should make this possible, has yet to emerge, but when it does, the day-to-day mechanisms of trade, bureaucracy and our daily lives will be handled by machines talking to machines. The “intelligent agents” people have touted for ages will finally materialize.” [Tim Berners-Lee]
We are now on edge of the creation of the first generation of a ‘metaverse’ where the virtual and physical world join.
The founders see Glocon as part of this future ‘metaverse’ as a real time wearable contextual social and personalized device linking the virtual and physical world in real time integrated into peoples daily lives.
Our goal is to build holistic hardware and software solutions for the ‘metaverse’.
A key element to this approach is the concept of a NAN Near me Area Network.
A near-me area network (NAN) is a logical communication network that focuses on communication among wireless devices in close proximity.
Example of common problems that the creation of Glocon communicating over NAN would be able to resolve.
Jake is going to the supermarket to buy three bottles of red wine. The supermarket offers a 30 percent discount on the purchase of six bottles, but Jake would like to only buy 3 bottles of wine and would like to find someone to buy the other three.
Jason bought two concert tickets and his friend didn’t turn up and would like to sell the ticket in the crowd before entering the venue.
In a theme park, guests would like to know each ride’s queue status to reduce their waiting time.
David works at Causeway Bay and would like to find someone to have lunch with.
Marie just lost her son in the street
John walks into a bar and would like to find someone who shares the same interests as he does and is physically what he is looking for.
And there are so many more..
